The façade’s central dynamics aim to exploit the movement of light while retaining a formal relationship with the adjacent gasometer. The design grew from the idea of a single object that–in conception–rotates at ninety-degree intervals along the façade.
The appearance of each object differs due to: the ‘turning’ of the object, the multiformity of the elements within the object, the movement of the viewer and of the sun. When placed in a continuum a play of light evolves, and importantly, this shifts as the day progress. Thus, the simplicity of the object is transformed into a vastly complex field enlivened by light, orientation and movement.
